Geez, I seriously do not know where to start since I’ve been on hiatus for x months. Oh well, I’d just start with,
WOOOHOOOOO!!! Culinary Practicum is over!!! HURRRRRRAAAHHHHH!!!!
But I’m not sure if its a happy or sad thing. Yes, it may be stressful at times (actually, most of this time) with the day-to-day operations, mini projects and tests, and not forgetting that ‘judgement day’ a.k.a. Commis Challenge (such a fancy name, gosh..) where we display a buffet consisting of several tapas, or finger food and waiting uber long for judges to comment and critique our dishes. But everything was worth it, yes, it is. My group emerged top for the Commis Challenge and also, I was awarded with the Professionalism certificate because I’m indeed, professional. Gosh, thick-skinned aren’t I? Hahaha! So anyway, that was double happiness for me on the last day of CuliPrac.
Not long after the end of CuliPrac came the CP Foods Competition. A competition whereby it require a team of two to come out with 6 finger food dishes using their product. FYI, CP Foods is a company situated in Thailand that produces ready-to-cook products like the CP Shrimp Wonton, Golden Crispy, etc etc… And to our surprise, we actually got a distinction trophy despite the fact that Hao Qing and I was prepared to go home empty-handed after hearing all those not-so-good comments about our food from the judges. But anyhow, we’ll be going on a trip to Thailand together with other winning teams as a reward. So that was CP Competition for you.
After that, it was work, work and work. And everything was fine, until yesterday. After 11 months at Starbucks, I finally got my very own CA.It was just plain stupid because the reason is that I have a shortage of 10 bucks in my cash register. And for you guys out there wondering what in the heaven is a CA, its actually like a bad record whereby your name will be engraved into the database of SB stating what mess you’ve created. Notice I used the word ‘engraved’, because that record stays there for life. Well, at least for your whole life in SB. Geez, I make it sounds so petrifying. Lols.
<START OF REFLECTION>
Throughout my whole journey back to home in the cab, I wondered why. Why would my register be short of 10 bucks? It couldn’t be that orange note just disappear into thin air, neither could it be that infamous Salleh came and mistook it as hell note, right? And so, these are some hypotheses that I came out;
1) I gave excess change back to the customer. But I always count my money thrice if not, at least twice before I hand it to the customer. But the possibility of me counting the money wrongly for three time is still there.
2) The times where I have to change my big notes into loose changes with other register. Thus, causing me to miscount my money. Possibility? Unlikely, because if thats so, the other register will also encounter a shortage/excess. But that isn’t so.
3) The starting till given to me was already short of the 10 bucks. Again, its not really possible given the fact that I did count the amount before the till is assigned to me. And I assume that the manager did cross-check the amount before it was given to me.
4) Someone else managed to get hold of my register and did something to it. Nonsense! I didn’t even exercise till-sharing and its just me and my register all the while. Gosh, why would I even think of that?!
And I finally came to a conclusion, the answer is me. My carelessness to be exact. I should have been more vigilant when handling monetary stuffs. Giving excess change to customer is not the customer’s fault, its the cashier’s blunder. A shortage in the initial given till is not the manager’s fault, its once again the cashier’s fault for not cross-checking and informing the manager. Yes, it was really a busy day and attending to customers are energy-demanding but still its not an excuse for not properly tending your own register. This boils down to a question that is whether the safety of your cash is more important or your convenience sake?
Its a painful lesson to learn, but then again its trials like this that actually gives you a tight slap in your face to tell you to wake up and get your ass to function properly if you don’t wanna screw your life again.
Will I be afraid of POS? Maybe, but does that mean I can shun it forever? Definitely not. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.
Yes, I did emo-ed, but that was past tense already, time to move on and look forward! Like what my Title states:
ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD LA DHEY… LOLS…
<END OF REFLECTION>
Holy Moly Madcow, I’ve just spent an hour plus just to resurrect my blog.
~ohmytianxxzzz~
P.S.: Salleh is actually our very own ‘Casper’ in SB and he is a pro in hiding our things such as scissors, pens, etc…
P.S.S.: Can’t wait to go IT Show later!! Yayness!!
P.S.S.S.: I’m fine already, really!
